Bernhard H. Mayers® is a long-established luxury brand offering exclusive and high-quality watches and jewellery. But who would’ve thought that this family-owned Swiss-watch brand sow its roots not on watches and jewellery but on… numismatics.
This five-generation family business was established in 1871 in Pforzheim (City of Gold) – Germany’s centre for jewellery and watch making industry. The business founded by Mr Bernhard H. Mayer’s great-grandfather, then named Mayer Mint, was manufacturing and selling dies (tools for minting coins).
With over a hundred years of knowledge and experience in the crafting and manufacturing of precious metals, Mayer Mint expanded into minting and soon started producing collectible and commemorative coins from precious metals, quickly becoming a key player in the numismatic field, producing collectible coins valued all over the world.
Since then, the Mayer Mint, later Bernhard H. Mayer® produced many key numismatics including Father of Nations (FAO) coin series that included Mother Teresa and King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the beloved king of Thailand; and the Champions for Peace series that captures the timeless goodness of key figures such as Pope John Paul II, John F. Kennedy and Lady Diana in the set of luxurious gold coins.
But how did the company expand into the prestigious world of luxury watches and jewellery?
Well, it all started with a hobby that runs deeply within the family – a love for engraving covers of pocket watches, an indispensable accessory in the 19th century. At that time, an embossed or engraved cover of a quality pocket watch was a significant fashion and reputation statement. This hobby became the stepping stone to how passion, style and newly-found traditions laid the foundation for Bernhard H. Mayer® watches. As time went by, watches became strongly associated with the Mayer family business. So when the company acquired a watch production facility in Switzerland, it was just a matter of time before it became a genuine manufacturer of Swiss watches.
With the move to providing the world with luxury Swiss-made watches under the Bernhard H. Mayer® brand, the next natural expansion in the world of luxury commodities is precious jewellery. The Bernhard H. Mayer® now provides luxury jewellery that are the testament of taste and style of its wearer.
Today, Bernhard H. Mayers® has steadily grown in the luxury industry and has provided premium items that are products of more than a hundred years of knowledge and experience in the crafting and manufacturing of precious metals.
